Hey, it’s Phyllis Thompson here … with a delicious treat for you!

How to pick a perfect preworkout snack & my latest list of favorite grab & go pre-workout snacks.

But don’t let the “pre-workout” label fool you – they actually make for a healthy snack any time of day!

In case you don’t already know me, I’m Phyllis Thompson with Beastmom Fitness and I  help busy moms  over 40 and up lose weight, defy aging & balance their hormones; through fitness and nutrition

Ready? Here’s my current list of favorite snacks. They all have 3 things in common.

They are portable, require almost no effort to prepare, and they taste great.

And even better… they won’t weigh you down during your workout.

  1. 1 tbsp peanut or almond butter on a medium banana or an apple. I prefer it on an apple, it low key tastes like a dessert
  2. 100 calorie package of nuts…almonds are a good one.
  3. ½ cup (40 g) (dry) oatmeal with 1 cup (240 ml) of your favorite NON DAIRY (we all know dairy is inflammatory) milk and handful of berries
  4. 2 rice cakes with 1 tbsp nut butter…did you know they have them in chocolate now?
  5. 1 hard-boiled egg with handful of berries or grapes
  6. Deli meat roll-ups: 2-3 slices of uncured turkey rolled up inside a mini whole-grain tortilla with some spicy mustard…yummm
  7. Single serving (150 g) of low-fat, low-sugar Greek yogurt.

My first choice is an apple with some nut butter, which I like because it tastes like a dessert & is a good combo of protein, carbs, healthy fats, and it’s crunchy and sweet..

My second choice is  package of almonds , which I like because I just have to grab a packet from the kitchen and I’m ready to go..

My third choice is the deli roll ups, which I like because it’s filling and keeps me going through the toughest workout. Plus, it’s versatile, if I am eating dairy I can add some cheese….put a sauce on it or add avocado or hummus.

The whole idea of a pre-workout snack is to give your body the right amount of fuel to make it through your workout feeling strong, without a rumbling stomach by the end that sends you reaching for something not on plan before you get home for your next meal.
